FFE School Workshops: Creating Learning Experiences With Impact

At Fund for Education, we believe that education should go beyond textbooks. Students need academic knowledge, but they also need practical life skills, emotional awareness, social responsibility, and the confidence to contribute positively to their communities.
This belief is at the heart of FFE’s school workshop program. Through delivering interactive workshops in European schools, FFE brings topics such as financial literacy, resilience, diversity, inclusion, and environmental awareness into the classroom. At the same time, the workshops support FFE’s wider mission: raising funds to help talented but underprivileged students in the Global South access higher education.
In this way, every workshop creates a double impact. Students in Europe gain meaningful soft skills and real-life learning experiences, while students in the Global South receive support for their educational journey.
So far, FFE has organized several workshops in Athens, Greece, including at DES International School and Verita International School. These experiences have shown how powerful learning can become when schools combine academic education with values-based, practical, and globally minded learning.
1. Financial Responsibility: From Little Seeds to Big Treasures
FFE’s first round of school workshops took place in April and May 2025 at DES International School Athens. Under the theme “From Little Seeds to Big Treasures,” the workshops engaged around 170 students and turned important life lessons into interactive learning experiences.
The first round focused on financial literacy. Students explored budgeting, saving, responsible spending, and generosity through an engaging metaphor: the money tree. Just as a tree needs care, patience, and strong roots to grow, students learned that money also requires thoughtful decisions and long-term responsibility. During the sessions, students worked in teams to create their own budgets and make financial decisions. This hands-on approach helped them understand that financial literacy is not only about money. It is also about planning, responsibility, generosity, and making choices that reflect personal values.
In the second round of workshops, younger students explored Unity in Diversity, while high school students focused on resilience. Through activities, younger students brought the concept of unity to life and experienced how people become stronger when they are connected, and how differences can become a source of strength rather than separation.
For the high school students, the resilience workshop emphasized that resilience is not about perfection. It is about learning how to grow through challenges. They reflected on personal struggles and explored practical ways to recover from setbacks. The response from DES was deeply encouraging. Students shared reflections about how they could apply these lessons in daily life, while the school manager highlighted:
“The workshops created a sense of purpose in the school community because students were not only learning. They were also giving.”
2. Green Literacy: Connecting Everyday Choices to a Sustainable Future
In November 2025, FFE returned to DES International School for a Green Literacy workshop with students from Grades 3 to 9. This workshop helped students understand how their daily actions shape the planet and how caring for the environment is connected to caring for people. Green literacy was presented not only as environmental knowledge, but as a way to understand responsibility, fairness, and community.
Through interactive and fun activities, students explored how everyday products connect people, communities, and the planet. They were encouraged to think about fairness in global trade, value-based choices, and the role their own decisions can play in creating a more responsible future.
Older students went deeper into sustainability topics, reflecting on how daily habits such as transport, food, energy use, and waste can shape their environmental impact. These conversations helped them connect global challenges to their own lives at home, at school, and in their communities.
For FFE, this workshop reflected a key part of our mission: education should help young people understand the world and their role in improving it. By learning about sustainability, fairness, and responsibility, students begin to see how their choices can support stronger communities locally and globally.
3. Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Differences, Strengthening Connections
In April 2026, FFE brought the “Unity in Diversity” workshop to Verita International School in Athens. FFE delivered 14 workshop sessions for primary school students from Grades 1 to 6, reaching around 250 students. The workshops focused on inclusion, diversity, empathy, respect, collaboration, and social awareness.
As an international school, Verita brings together students from many different nationalities, backgrounds, and experiences. This made the topic of Unity in Diversity especially relevant and meaningful in the classroom.
Students explored the meaning of unity as something real, visible, and practical in their own classroom. Through interactive activities and thoughtful reflection, they explored how respect, listening, kindness, and inclusion can turn differences in background, ability, and perspective into a source of shared strength.
As a continuation of this collaboration, Verita International School organized a fundraiser to support FFE’s work, helping create educational opportunities for underprivileged youth through the wider school community. FFE looks forward to returning to Verita International School for a second round of workshops with older students, bringing the Unity in Diversity program to the middle school section.
Why Social-emotional Workshops Matter
FFE school workshops are designed to create meaningful learning experiences for students while also supporting access to education for others. For participating schools, the workshops offer a practical way to enrich students’ learning beyond traditional academics. Students do not only hear about values, but they also experience them through activities, teamwork, reflection, and discussion.
For FFE, the workshops are also part of a sustainable fundraising model. The proceeds help support scholarships and educational opportunities for talented students in the Global South with financial barriers, creating a meaningful bridge between students in Europe and students in underserved communities. It is a model built on shared learning, solidarity, and long-term impact.
Learning That Builds Stronger Communities
Across all three workshop experiences, one message has become clear: students are eager to engage with topics that feel connected to real life. Money, fairness, teamwork, resilience, inclusion, and sustainability all opened space for questions, reflection, and meaningful conversations about how their actions matter.
This is why FFE believes soft skills education is essential. When students learn financial responsibility, resilience, empathy, inclusion, and green literacy, they build confidence, prepare for challenges, and understand their role in creating kinder, fairer, and more responsible communities. These are skills that stay with them far beyond one classroom or one school year.
